“When does the next book in
[insert children’s graphic novel series here] come out?"
This is a question we get everyday. Most of the year, the answer is, “I’m so sorry, the book you want isn’t coming out for months and months and months.” The customer is disappointed. We’re disappointed. We understand. Waiting is hard. But guess what? It’s FALL which is basically NEW BOOK SEASON A-GO-GO!!!! The books are on the way!!!!
Here’s a comprehensive list of release dates—parents pay attention!
OUT NOW! SURFSIDE GIRLS: MYSTERY AT THE OLD RANCHO by Kim Dwinell
Sam and Jade are back at Danger Point—but so are the ghosts. A 200 year old mystery "takes the girls all over their town and beyond, all while Surfside's Annual Surf Competition is going on. Add to the mix a cute surfer boy, a mysterious mustached man with a guitar, and a very jealous Sam—can the surfing sleuths save the day again?"
OUT NOW! BEST FRIENDS
BY SHANNON HALE & LEUYEN PHAM
The follow-up to Hale’s memoir Real Friends. Most of Shannon’s friends were pretty mean to her in elementary school in the last book, so I’m really hoping things go better in junior high (not sure how likely that is).
OUT NOW! BABY-SITTERS CLUB: BOY-CRAZY STACEY BY ANN M. MARTIN & GALE GALLIGAN
A new adaptation of a Baby-Sitters Club book from 1987. Stacey and Mary Anne have to babysit a zillion Pike children in New Jersey, Stacey meets a hunk named Scott, obviously goes “boy-crazy,” starts slacking off and Mary Anne has to do everything (poor Mary Anne).
SEPTEMBER 17 - GUTS
BY RAINA TELGEMEIER
The publisher is being very vague and cryptic about what this book is about (it may or may not be about upset stomachs?), so we’ll just have to wait until we get it in the store to see what’s up. But the one thing we do know is that Raina Telgemeier is a superstar and this book is going to be greaaaaat!
OCTOBER 1 - SUNNY ROLLS THE DICE
BY JENNIFER L. HOLM & MATTHEW HOLM
Some girls (like the above mentioned Stacey McGill from Baby-Sitters Club) go boy-crazy when they start middle school. Other girls, like Sunny, get really into Dungeons and Dragons. Get ready to get your orc on!
OCTOBER 8 - THE UNICORN WHISPERER
BY DANA SIMPSON
Phoebe and Marigold Heavenly Nostrils (the unicorn I assume whom is getting whispered to) get into magic spell hijinks in this new volume.
OCTOBER 29 - DIARY
BY SVETLANA CHMAKOVA
The follow-up to Awkward, Brave, and Crush (all of which are amazing) is a little different. It comes with stickers (!!!!!!!!!!!), activities, and all new short stories with your favorite students from BerryBrook Middle School.
DECEMBER 3 - MAJOR IMPOSSIBLE
(HAZARDOUS TALES #9)
BY NATHAN HALE
John Wesley Powell is someone I’ve never heard of (and I was a history major, OOPS), but kids can learn about him VERY SOON. (Apparently he is one of America's most iconic and epic adventurers?!)
DECEMBER 10 - DOG MAN: FETCH-22
BY DAV PILKEY
Get ready for another hilarious addition to the Dog Man series. "Petey the Cat is out of jail, and he has a brand-new lease on life. While Petey's reevaluated what matters most, Li'l Petey is struggling to find the good in the world. Can Petey and Dog Man stop fighting like cats and dogs long enough to work as a team?"
DECEMBER 24 - LUMBERJANES VOL. 13:
BY LEYH & WATTERS & STEVENSON & ELLIS
"It’s pouring rain, and each and every ‘Jane has been tasked with just one job: stay inside, stay dry, and DON’T get into trouble. Confined to the Mess Hall, Jo and Molly give tabletop roleplaying a try, while Ripley, April, and Mal venture a little further afield after discovering a secret tunnel beneath the Kitchens...and the colossal prehistoric bug that lives there! Hey, they’re not technically outside, right?"
