Brendan Constantine Presents...

a GATHERING OF TRIBES

performances by DEREK D. BROWN, MIKE SONKSEN, RA AVIS

Brendan Constantine will be providing Chevalier's with another magnificent night of poetry, music, and wine. Three great poets, one great night.

Derek D. Brown is an author, poet, and venture expressionist based in Los Angeles and a graduate from Community Literature Initiative's author training program at the University of Southern California. His premiere collection of poems, entitled Articulate Scars, was met with wide acclaim from poetry virgins and seasoned wordsmiths alike.

Equally a scholar and performer, Mike Sonksen, also known as, Mike the Poet, is a 3rd-generation L.A. native acclaimed for poetry performances, published articles and mentoring teen writers. Following his graduation from U.C.L.A. in 1997 as a Sociology Major, he has published over 500 essays and poems. Mike has an Interdisciplinary Master of Arts in English and History and his prose and poetry have been included in programs with the Mayor’s Office, the Los Angeles Public Library’s “Made in LA,” series, Grand Park, the Music Center and the Friends of the Los Angeles River.

Ra Avis is a sometimes-poet, a once-upon-a-time inmate, a reluctantly-optimistic widow, and an exponential storyteller. She blogs regularly at Rarasaur.com, and is the author of Sack Nasty: Prison Poetry and Dinosaur-Hearted

Hosting it all will be the one and only Brendan Constantine - whose work has appeared in Prairie Schooner, FIELD, Ploughshares, Virginia Quarterly, and Ninth Letter, among other journals. His most recent collection is ‘Dementia, My Darling. He currently teaches poetry at the Windward School and regularly offers classes to hospitals, foster homes, veterans, and the elderly.
